Poem in Which the Bike Lane Is a Thought Vehicle
for Lauren Russell
I have had the privilege
of crying in public
& I believe
in paying attention,
ringing doorbells to say
I am here for the open house
Lauren wrote a perfect poem
about the crows
& now I am unsure of what else to say
except that they have migrated
from Preston Street to Lake Montebello
making peace with geese
as they dance in cloud ridge-lines
& I do not want to romanticize
this ruin
this flight
that people can only dream of
