Don José’s Final Appearance (from Carmen)
Black
as a raindrop
in a bubble of blood,
a bat scythes the nexus between grey skies
and the Cross
potent tissue made ephemeral
as it reaches pink dew smeared on gypsy lips,
the structure
only a Martian could design
on an excursion
to Jupiter,
and a flaccid brain pouring unimpeded
into candles
that darken eyes with mystical light
