Bobby
Bobby the cashier died last week.
There’s a small memorial up front
by the shopping carts and internet
sales kiosk. He loved the state fair.
Talked about it each time I checked out.
I started sneaking like a thief
through the U-Scan for peace of mind.
One can only hear so much about
goats, cheese, and chickens, after all.
Now he is gone and I wonder
how the corn looked this drought year.
