Spring Is Busting Out All Over
“Spring is busting out all over
but are you?
are you flat chested?
has nature forgotten you?” –
song the gym class sang
in Spring, 1961
after our required showers,
when I discovered my bra
had been stuffed with cotton.
Unimpressive bust size
made bra shopping
somewhat embarrassing.
At Clatworthy’s Ready to Wear,
one of the few places to buy a bra
in our rural county,
preferred to buy undergarments
from Jane Clatworthy;
many women preferred to do business
with Urlyss – who remembered
the panty and bra size
of most of the women in the county.
