  • Nine Holocaust Poets

    This book of translations features work by Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945), Max Hayek (1882-1944), Max Herrmann-Neiße (1886-1941), Gertrud Kolmar (1894-1943), Else Lasker-Schüler (1869–1945), Selma Meerbaum-Eisinger (1924-1942), Miklós Radnóti (1909-1944), Marianne Dora Rein (1911-1942), and Ilse Weber (1903-1944). Many of these poets were driven into exile for their religious or political beliefs, and a number were imprisoned in ghettos or concentration camps, and wrote about that experience.


  • Ernst Toller – The Unleashed Wotan and Three Other Plays

    This book of translations includes four plays by Toller: The Unleashed Wotan, The Revenge of the Scorned Lover, Hoopla, We’re Alive and Fire from the Cauldrons. These plays reflect the wide depth and breath of Toller’s work, while still building on his tradition of innovation, his anti-war message, and his fight for social justice. The cover picture is of some German Sailors who mutinied in the later stages of WWI that Toller wrote about in the play Fire from the Cauldrons.


  • Ernst Toller – Transfiguration and Three Other Plays

    This book of translations includes four plays by Ernst Toller (1893-1939) written while imprison at Fortress Niederschönenfeld. Transfiguration and Masses and Man established his internatonal reputation as an expressionist in the turbulent post WWI era. And while The Machine Wreckers and Heinkemann were more traditional plays, they still carried on his tradition of innovation, his anti-war message, and his fight for social justice. The cover picture is a scene from the Prelude of a 1923 production of Transfiguration.


  • Ernst Toller – Letters from Prison

    Ernst Toller (1893–1939) was a German author and revolutionary, known for his Expressionist plays. He was imprisoned for five years for his part in the armed resistance by the Bavarian Soviet Republic to the central government in Berlin. While in prison, several of his plays gained international renown and were performed in London, NYC, Berlin, Moscow and other places. In 1933, Toller was exiled from Germany after the Nazis came to power. He died by suicide in NYC in May 1939. These translations includes Toller’s Letters from Prison, which detail his experiences as a political prisoner in 1920’s Germany, as well as the chorus The Day of the Proletariat, and The German Revolution, a political speech.
